The Boys

I found this while packing... The miniature red golden retriever is my dog Rusty. He died when I was in my last year of college at the age of 14... This was taken when he was probably 4 years old, he was such a gorgeous and lovable dog... He was by best friend, really, my best friend growing up was a dog. He had one blue eye and one brown eye with a speck of blue in it and the most wonderful long red fur. I remember he walked crooked and hated grass above all things, walking in it only long enough to do his business then returning to the sidewalk or street and taking the long way back to the door, except when chasing squirrels, which he loved to do. As he aged his fur grew darker on his back and his face grew to be a dusty pink color. He died of cancer in my arms, after that I returned to college unable to take it anymore where my car exploded 10 miles from town... It was a disaster... I still remember Rusty as my first love so to speak...

Beside good old Rusty, is Sprocket, my mom's long hair chihuahua. He was about 1 year old when this was taken. Now he's got a lot more white on his face... He's probably 13 by now, has a heart murmur, but still the same adorable puppy as before.

The two of them were buds, Rusty was the calm one, the good dog, and Sprocket still is the stinker and tough stuff that barks from under the table. They would always fall asleep butt to butt in one of the chairs, but when we got the new chair they knew they weren't supposed to be up there, but they'd jump up as soon as we left the house and we'd catch them still sleeping in it when we got back.
